What are you reading?

I haven’t done one of these in ages and since I read non-stop, I thought I’d share some of my recent favorites.  Please let me know what you’ve recently read and enjoyed so I can add it to my Paperback Swap wish list!

Right now I’m reading A Clearing in the Wild by Jane Kirkpatrick.  Amanda leant it to me and I am loving it!  I can’t wait to read the rest (which Amanda also leant me!) It’s the story of a headstrong woman in 1850 who clashes with the constraints of her small religious community.

I recently finished Brisingr by Christopher Paolini.  I thought this was the final book of the Inheritance Trilogy, but I was so glad to be wrong when I finished the book that is to be continued in a fourth!  You may have heard of the first book, Eragon, which was made into a movie.  If you like dragons and Lord of the Rings type fantasy, this series is incredible.

Another recent read was Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult.  She is one of my favorite authors and she never fails to amaze me with her crazy twists. This is the story of a death row inmate who wants to donate his heart to the sister of the girl he murdered.

The last book I read is the best one I’ve read in a long time.  It is Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster. Ths is the true memoir of how a ”haughty former sorority gal went from having a household income of almost a quarter-million dollars to being evicted from a ghetto apartment in less than two years.” I can’t wait to read her other books.

So, what are you reading?  Or better yet, what should I read next?

What are you reading?

Right now, I’m reading A Map of the World by Jane Hamilton.  I recently finished Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides, which was just awesome. Before that, I read Book of the Dead, which was the latest in the Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell.  It was great as they always are. Earlier, I read The Copper Beach and The Glass Lake by Maeve Binchy. I just adore her.

Right now, Amazing Grace by Danielle Steel and Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult, are on there way to me from Paperback Swap.

So, I have a few credits there…have you read anything good lately?

I heart books

I got this from Amanda and couldn’t resist!

What are you reading right now? Close to You by Mary Jane Clark

Do you have any idea what you’ll read when you’re done with that? I’ve literally got 15 to-read books on my bookshelf. I’ll probably read The Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan.

What magazines do you have in your bathroom right now? In Touch

What’s the worst thing you were ever forced to read? There are lots of books I just can’t get through.  The latest was The Life of Pi by Yann Martel.

What’s the one book you always recommend to just about everyone?  Historical Fiction fans MUST read everything and I do mean everything by Brock & Bodie Thoene (start with Zion Covenant).  People who think they don’t like to read need everything by Frank Peretti. That’s what got Dave to start reading this year!  He started with Monster and loved it.

Admit it, the librarians at your library know you on a first name basis, don’t they? No, because most of my books come from Paperback Swap.

Is there a book you absolutely love, but for some reason, people never think it sounds interesting, or maybe they read it and don’t like it at all? Yes, I know many adults who turn their noses up at the Harry Potter books and won’t even give them a try.

Do you read books while you do other things? Yep.  I carry my books with me everywhere.  I read at the drs office, at stoplights, etc.

When you were little, did other children tease you about your reading habits? I don’t remember getting teased.  My best friend Lesley and I used to read The Babysitters Club together.

What’s the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn’t put it down? Harry. I got it at midnight. And finished it by 4pm the next day.

If you’re a reader, tag you’re it! If you play along, leave me a comment so we can all see what you’re reading now!

I just started The Body Farm by Patricia Cornwell today.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd

What’s on your bookshelf?

I finished Memoirs of a Geisha a few days ago.  What an amazing story!  As usual, it was better than the movie, but I can say that the movie did the book justice.

I started the 12th book in the Guardians of Ga’Hoole series by Kathryn Lasky.  So far it’s great.  The last 3 books have been a flashback, so it’s nice to get back to the original characters- the Chaw of Chaws.

Next on my shelf waiting to be read is My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult.  It was recommended to me by a few people, so I’m looking forward to it.

I have 7 books on the way to me from Paperback Swap.  They are:

In the Country of the Young by Lisa Carey

Lucky You by Carl Hiaasen

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

The Glass Lake & The Copper Beach by Maeve Binchy

Sisterchicks on the Loose by Robin Jones Gunn

 So, what are you reading?

Danielle Steel

I’ve recently joined the ranks of book swappers at www.paperbackswap.com and I’ve realized something…I have almost finished reading every Danielle Steel book…and there are 71 of them.  I’ve read 68 of them.  I had no idea that I had read so many!  Danielle Steel is my favorite author.  To some they are silly, fluffy, love stories, but to me they are an easy read that completely entertain me.  The latest of her books that I’ve read is His Bright Light-the story of Nick Traina.  This is the non-fiction account of her son’s struggles with being bi-polar.  My best friend’s sister is bi-polar and I now have some insight into the disease.  She drives me up the wall, but now I see her in a different light!  I think that anyone who knows anyone who is bipolar should read this book.
