American Idol
I think the judges made a huge mistake last night. Between four judges, you’d think their decisions would be pretty spot on, but no way. They let one of the most talented people auditioning go! Jamar had more talent in his pinky toe than some of these other guys! Jamar is the guy who’s best friend (thank God he made it) had his wife die right before the audition. The black dude with the weirdo facial piercings. The one they said didn’t stand out enough. Say whaaaat?

Seriously? Now, I’m not going to go there with the girls who got in and aren’t as good as him because it’s a number game. They have even numbers of girls and guys.
Alex over Jamar? I think not.

Jorge over Jamar? Certainly not.

Nick over Jamar? Heavens no.

Norman over Jamar? Who are you kidding?

Oh wait…Nick is Norman. And a resounding NO is heard.
As much as I like him (as a singer, not his annoying crying), Nathaniel over Jamar? Mmmm, no. Even though I’m pretty sure we have the same haircut!

I think the judges missed out because he WAS different. He DID stand out. He was an attractive guy who sang incredibly. And they missed out because of the likeability (that spelling just doesn’t look right!) factor because of the journey that he and his best friend, Danny Gokey, made.

By the way… where are Danny’s glasses in this promo pic? He looks better with glasses. Sort of like me!
Paula, Simon, Randy, Cara… I’m disappointed and I think you made a mistake. Buuuut, I predict now that Danny will win this thing and I bet you think so too. Next year, I’ll be looking for my man, Jamar!
Disappointment Galore
I was already down about the cancellation of Pushing Daisies, and now I read that Eli Stone has also been cancelled? What is going on with ABC? Two excellent shows cancelled? Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone were two of the most creative shows around. I certainly will miss the pie man and the lawyer who sees the future.
How did you spend your Friday?
As it’s our last night sans kids, we bought filet mignon, fried some eggplant, cooked an artichoke, and uncorked a bottle of Merlot. After a lovely, satisfying dinner, Dave conked out and went to bed. I caught up with my DVR- I watched Eli Stone, Top Chef, & Chimp Eden- all while playing on the net, and all with my fabulous cat warming my belly. Have you ever tried to balance a cat and a laptop on your lap? My legs have fallen asleep a few times! At 8 am tomorrow, I am on my way towards Florida to pick up the kids. Oh, how I miss them! So, how did you spend your Friday evening?
Can it get more exciting than this?
This is the message I got today from our local ABC station. Needless to say, I am very excited! I’ll have to have a LOST party at my house or something!

American Idol- girls night
Well, I wasn’t impressed with the girls- what a boring night, compared to last night. I know a lot of them were sick, but most of them were sharp at times. Yuck.
Here are my favorites from tonight:

Yeah…that’s it. I was really disappointed. I’m hoping they can all get well and next week will be better. As of now, I’m rooting for the boys.
Tony Campolo on Colbert
Ok, so I’m still having problems embedding video- I can’t figure out what is wrong. So, I put my video in the top right sidebar. Click on VodPod
Earlier in the month, Tony Campolo was on The Colbert Report (my favorite show!) He was just so incredible- it’s a must see. I cannot wait to read his book, Red Letter Christians. It is so refreshing to see someone who is an evangelical Christian, who is a liberal democrat- who believes in all human rights- including gay marriage. Plus, he played right along with Colbert’s humor and I like that.
I really want you to watch the video, but if you don’t, here are some great clips from the transcript:
:: the people who believe this the red-letters of the bible, the words of jesus. we are totally committed to it which means we’re in to compassion for the poor, first and foremost. compassion to the poor
Upon confronted with gay marriage, Tony states that marriage is in trouble in America because of heterosexual divorces.
:: all they want is the same privileges, good or bad, that the rest of us enjoy. don’t get me wrong. i am not affirming a particular lifestyle. i am, in fact, standing up for all the rights andprivileges that all americans should enjoy.
:: we want justice for our gay brothers and lesbian sisters because we think that god loves them intensely. he wants good for them.
Wow- I just love that- especially coming from someone as respected as Tony Campolo. It’s about human rights, people! Who are we to judge? We, as Christians, do so much of that already.
American Idol- boys night

So, who were your favorites?
Here are mine in no particular order! What fabulous, young talent! Amazing!

Okay, okay…I know I just listed 5 of the guys, but out of 12, at least I narrowed it down that much!
Now that all the shows are on hiatus…
What are you watching?
I started renting the HBO series, Big Love, this week. I’m on disk 3 and I’m totally addicted. Not enough to fork out the extra money each month to have HBO, but enough to have me driving from Blockbuster to Blockbuster today to get disk 3! Thank you, Dave, for looking up locations for me! The show has a great cast and great writers. The basic story is that Bill Paxton plays a polygamist who has 3 wives and it chronicles their daily lives and struggles. Very funny, very emotional at times…gosh, I hate Nicki!
As for what’s on the telly?

We’re watching, and yet again loving, “So You Think You Can Dance“. Now that Bailey’s into dancing and I’ve gotten to see the top dancers in her company perform, I’m even more excited to watch this season.

Hell’s Kitchen just started! Dave and I have enjoyed this show from season 1. They’re still cooking Beef Wellington (as it’s hard to make correctly). I am hoping upon hope that on my cruise…which I leave for in 3 days!!!…they will serve it. I am dying to try it! We missed the first episode, but I have it on my DVR now. Gordon Ramsey makes Simon Cowell look like a sweet little lamb!
We’re still enjoying Deadliest Catch. We were recently introduced to it and love it. It’s so extremely exciting and dangerous and heartbreaking and joyful…all in each show! In the episode we just watched tonight, it left us with a cliffhanger…one boat is one mile from the docks and it’s trapped in ice. The crew has to get their survival gear on and we’re not even sure the dock is open! Scary! Plus, we just LOVE Mike Rowe, from Dirty Jobs, and he’s the narrator! Awesome.
So, that’s what’s on our boob tube. How about yours?
Season Finales
Now that I have a little more time on my hands, I’ll update the ole blog. School finished on Friday and I have two more days of going in. It’s going to be quite boring, as I’ve cleaned, I’ve partially moved the furniture for carpet cleaning and I’m pretty much done.
Tonight is my last season finale of the year…House. I’m looking forward to it, and while thinking of the show, I decided to blog my thoughts on my other shows.
- Prison Break- Season Finale was a while ago, which I’m hoping will mean that it will come on sooner in the fall! You can see my take on the finale here.
- LOST- I don’t even know what to think of on this one. I’m kind of mad at the writers for showing us that they get off the island. I’m also mad at Chaahlie for dying! That just broke my heart. And who the heck is in the boat if it’s not Penny’s people? Hmmm, I just don’t know what to think. Plus, I heard that it won’t be on until February. Now that just makes me even more mad!
- Grey’s Anatomy- You can see how I felt about this finale here. The one thing I want to add is that I now have a favorite song, thanks to the finale. Listen to “Keep Breathing” by Ingrid Michaelson on my MySpace page here. Beautiful.
-
American Idol- I’m super glad that Jordin won. She sang the best in the finale, but I also don’t think it was fair to make Blake sing a song like that. Anyhow, Blake will do much better off on his own- he’ll make more money, he’ll have more artistic ability to do his own thing. I can’t wait for that cd.
- Supernatural- Wow, what a finale! If you don’t watch the show, it’s about two brothers who hunt demons. It has a Buffy or Angel feel to it, so if you were into either of those shows, I suggest renting and catching up with Supernatural. Plus, there’s the bonus of the two main characters being easy on the eyes. Back to the season finale. Very good twist having Dean exchange his life for Sammy’s. One year to fix everything- I like having that kind of time line. Dad also escaped from hell, where he was put in place of Dean’s life. Confused yet? I like the dad because it’s the same actor who played Denny, Izzy’s boyfriend on Grey’s Anatomy. I’ll leave you with a nice photo of Sam & Dean Winchester.

An Ode to Grey’s
How can I count the ways, that I am angry at Grey’s?
McDreamy & Meredith- huh? What happened there? I melted when he said she was the love of his life and begged her to put him out of her misery. So, what does she do? She proves him right and walks off. “It’s over…it’s so over.” Uggh. So, now he’s going to date her half-sister? Jeez Louise.
Chief & Adele -she loses HIS baby! That wasa a shocker. :( He has a chance to start over, and he’s going to continue to be chief? Dude! Get a clue…retire and live a wonderful life with your loving wife!

Karev and Eva/Rebecca- what a loser! It takes Addison to tell him that he loves her? He has loved her since he pulled her out of the water, and now it’s too late! Now what?
George and Izzie/Callie- George needed to be a man and admit that his marriage to Callie is bogus and that he rushed into it. He belongs with Izzie. But, that will never happen since he’s going to be off the show. That makes me mad too- dude, get over it. You got called a rude name and got outed, but it’s over. The offender is already leaving the show, why do you have to leave too?
What did I like about last night? Joe & his boyfriend, Walter, with the pregnant girl. Oh, I hope she gives them her babies. When Joe told her not to make any decisions and that the only thing that mattered was for her to get better, I just knew she’d choose them. Could you get better parents than that?

Christina & Burke- Oh my goodness…I am so aggravated with them. What does he expect from her? That’s why they worked so well- he understood her. I wish she had explained to him why she didn’t go down the isle. And what did she mean when she said, “I’m free” Was she happy or sad? I’m confused.
So, what am I looking forward to next year? Addison’s new show- Private Practice.
